In August of 2017, Lebanon passed and signed into law its first animal welfare bill. The Lebanese law will help end the illegal trafficking in wild animals prevalent in Lebanon, particularly lions and tigers who are often kept as status symbols.

Australia has convicted its first person for marrying a child, four years after enacting laws prohibiting child marriage. Hopefully, Australia can continue this positive trend of enforcement to fully prevent child marriages in the future.

Fishing on the high seas is one of the most important rights nations have under international law, but the lack of regulation has allowed humans to decimate fish populations. In 2015, the United Nations resolved to adopt a new treaty to regulate high seas fishing. The Republic of Maldives is a key stakeholder that will be affected by these new regulations.
